Iris Chung joined Metcalfe, Blainey & Burns LLP in March 2004. Prior to joining
Metcalfe, Blainey & Burns LLP, she practiced with Thorsteinssons, one of the leading
tax law firms in Canada, as a tax lawyer.
Iris was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1999 and
as a Barrister and Solicitor in Ontario in March 2002.
Iris’s areas of practice include will, trust, estate
planning, and corporate/commercial law. She draws on her knowledge in tax law
to add value on services to clients in these various areas of practice, including
the use of wills and trusts to facilitate estate planning. As part of her will
and trust practices, Iris advises clients on guardianship issues and care for
children with special needs. She also advises corporate clients on tax-efficient
ways to structure corporate/commercial transactions. In this regard, she works
closely with the clients’ accountants to ensure the desired tax results
would be achieved.
Iris regularly presents at seminars on guardianship, will,
trust and estate planning. Organizations like Yee Hong and Centre for Information
& Community Services often invite her as speaker for their seminars to their members
and the general public.
Iris is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English. Before pursuing
her legal career, Iris had had years of experience as a newspaper reporter.
